WCAR NEWSLETTER - 2008 HITS THERMAL WEEK III

Congratulations to Rich & Joie

West Coast Rider Rich Fellers piloted Flexible flawlessly around the Leopoldo Palacios course during the $50,000 Tourneau FEI World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix, presented by Adequan, on Friday, February 1st.

And Sunday's $125,000 HITS Grand Prix presented by EMO turned out to be a test of not only jumping skill but wind resistance. Joie Gatlin aboard Cameron Hills Shanroe rose above it all for the win.

Fantastic World Cup Qualifier in EquiBase™ Arena Systems Ring

Congratulations as well to HITS on producing a great World Cup Qualifier - the horses jumped great on the new footing. With a few minor adjustments - for example, more tiered bleachers on the side - this new arena has the potential to be a top-notch venue.

Larry Langer, Chairman of the Zone 10 Jumper Committee & Co-Chairman of the USEF National Jumper Committee, said "I had to come to Thermal personally and see for myself the operation of the show and the first World Cup Qualifier. I think the final product satisfies the most critical of competitors and is a tremendous benefit to our sport."

New FEI Ruling

The FEI has just released some new regulations for World Cup Qualifiers coming into effect next World Cup season (Fall '08 - Spring '09). Qualifiers must have a minimum of $75,000 in prize money for the World Cup plus at least two additional FEI classes with a minimum of $25,000 each. They are recommending that competitions not wanting anything except the "name" and the extra people that will bring lots of 3'6" horses should just drop the class.
