MERITORIOUS GRANT GROWS BIGGER

Again in 2007, West Coast Active Riders will award a grant comprised of showing and stabling fees at west coast horse shows to two deserving young riders. Awarded on the basis of athletic and academic merit as well as financial need, these grants enable up-and-coming riders who are dedicated to their education and the sport of show jumping the opportunity to compete at horse shows they may otherwise not have attended.

WCAR is grateful for the generosity of the following horse show managers who make this grant possible: Dale Harvey of West Palms Communications, Robert Ridland and RJ Brandes at Oaks Blenheim, Larry & Marnye Langer of Equestrian Sports, Inc., Adrian Ward of Pickwick Equestrian and Tim Postel at Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. This brings our 2007 WCAR Meritorious Rider Grant to $5,000 per rider!  Click here to apply. Applications are due on or before December 27, 2006!

A LOOK BACK & A LEAP FORWARD

What a year we’ve had… beginning with a fantastic sold out Casino Night at La Quinta to picking five teams, four for Spruce and one for Europe, followed by a deliciously successful 1st Annual Cook-Off, leading to a bounty of victories in countries from Canada to France – including:

  • Spruce Meadows Prix de Nations
    • The 1.10 Team took 2nd place after numerous clean rounds led the team to a jump off.  Chef: Susan Artes
    • The 1.20 Team again took a close 2nd place!  Chef: Will Simpson
    • The 1.30 Team ended with a very respectable 6th place finish after facing a very difficult course. Chef: Hap Hansen
    • The 1.40 Team took over the 3rd place position. They stayed strong all the way with a tough track and even tougher competition. Chef: Joie Gatlin

THANK YOU TAMMY CHIPKO FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!

  • WCAR European Team
    • Joie Gatlin: Leading lady rider – Royan, France
    • Francie Steinwedell-Carvin: 2nd in the Grand Prix de la Ville de Royan
    • Jenni Martin: 5th in the Small Grand Prix – Royan, France
    • Team: 4th in a difficult Nations Cup – Gijon, Spain
    • And a handful of other ribbons throughout the tour

None of this would be possible without the tremendous support of the WCAR Members, Board and SponsorsA million thanks!

We’re leaping into 2007 with:

  • 70+ members before December ’06 and many more to follow
  • A new member benefit from PAYNE-MASON. Shop ‘til you drop with a percentage going back to WCAR
  • An expanded Meritorious Riders Grant Program with two new participating Northern California managers – Tim Postel and Adrian Ward
  • SEVEN opportunities to qualify for the Spruce Meadows Teams. Two trials now in Northern California
  • A new High Performance Committee rallying for another European Tour
