WCAR is HOT to Trot with Meritorious Mentions, A Fantastic Fundraiser, Spruce Tour on Tap and Plans to go Euro!

West Coast Active Riders has jumped into a very busy year. Beginning with the announcement of two very deserving scholarship winners in the WCAR Meritorious Riders Scholarship Program and continuing non-stop with a sell out fundraiser, Spruce Meadows Prix de Nations qualifiers kicking off and trials set for West Coast Grand Prix riders to vie for a position on a summer European tour.

Carly Anthony and Lauren Hester were chosen as this year’s scholarly West Coast equestrians. The Selection Committee commented, “Both of these girls through their applications and through our research demonstrated their dedication to the sport, their skills as riders and their desire to compete in the jumper divisions at the more advanced level. This decision was very difficult as we felt all of the candidates had great qualities.”

Each winner received a bag of gifts and $1,000 show credit from four top West Coast show managers, including Tom Struzzieri, Dale Harvey, Larry Langer and Robert Ridland.

WCAR hosts its annual fundraiser every year at the gorgeous La Quinta Resort. Despite stormy cold weather, the sold-out affair included a sensational ARIAT Fashion Show, thirty awesome items in the Silent Auction, a Grand Prix Calcutta and a Casino night. You could hear the buzzing around the show the following day – the best event ever! WCAR expresses a giant thanks to the slew of fabulous sponsors and donors and the phenomenal volunteers, especially Board Members Julie Hancock and Elaine Fresch whose hard work truly made the entire evening come together.

A brand new Junior/Amateur show is slated to host the Spruce Meadows Prix de Nations class this year. The dates are a week earlier than years previous, June 22-25, 2006. The Palms Classic Horse Show kicks off the first two of four trials, with a Friday night Prix de Nations class and a Sunday qualifier. The next two qualifiers are at the Oaks and Showpark, with teams picked and primed by mid-May. Plenty of time to practice over those natural obstacles! WCAR is happy to announce more fabulous sponsors stepping up to the plate, including ARIAT, Heritage Gloves, Creative Saddlery and Maplewood, Inc.

And finally WCAR is excited to have plans underway for a 2006 Summer European Tour. With not one but two inspiring visits from USinfoEF chef d’equipe George Morris during the HITS Desert Circuit, Grand Prix riders were encouraged to be ambitious and hungry and remember equestrian legends such as Jimmy Williams. He picked a West Coast chef d’equipe, well-known equestrian Bernie Traurig. WCAR Executive Director Dale Harvey will manage the tour. Applications are available with the first trials in early May at the Del Mar National Horse Show followed by trials at Ranch & Coast.
